What regulations does Cradle have for number purchases?

If you're buying a number through Cradle, there are a few requirements that we need to meet. These vary by country but we can help you get these sorted.

There are different requirements that Cradle has to meet before we can let you choose a number. Most countries have their own regulations to prevent fraud, to stop bad actors from using numbers, and to make sure that when you're receiving a phone call, it's from a legitimate person or company. Each country has different requirements.

We have summarised the regulations in New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland and South Africa. If you need to purchase numbers outside these countries please get in touch with us and we will help you out. 

New Zealand

Toll-Free

We don't require any special documentation for 0800 numbers in New Zealand. These numbers all begin with 0800 or 0508. 

Local Landline Numbers

We require a copy of your company extract from the Companies Office website. Normally we will collect this on your behalf, however, if you don't sign up with a company name we will ask you to verify your New Zealand Business Number (NZBN). 

This is used as your Proof of Identity and your Proof of Local Address

If you're an individual (not a company), you will have to send us a PDF of your passport and a recent utility bill. 

Australia

Toll-Free

We don't require any special documentation for 1300 or 1800 numbers in Australia.

Local Landline Numbers

We need to have your physical address on file. You can enter this on the Account page of the Cradle admin site. 

Mobile Numbers

We require a copy of your company extract from the Australian Business Registry website. Normally we will collect this on your behalf, however, if you don't sign up with a company name we will ask you to verify your Australian Business Number (ABN). 

This is used as your Proof of Identity and your Proof of Business ID

We will also need a utility bill, tax notice or rent receipt to confirm your current address if this is not included on the company extract for Proof of Address. (the Australian Securities and Investments Commission can provide an extract that meets all three requirements)

If you're an individual (not a company), you will have to send us a PDF of your passport and a recent utility bill. 

The United States and Canada

All Numbers

We don't require any special documentation for the purchase of US or Canada numbers. 

The United Kingdom

All Numbers

We don't require any special documentation for the purchase of UK numbers. We do recommend entering an address into the Cradle system on sign up. 

Ireland

Toll-Free

We require a business address anywhere in the world for 1800 numbers in Ireland, as well as a Business Registration Extract for your company. We are unable to issue Irish numbers to individuals. 

Local Landline Numbers

We need to have your physical address on file. You can enter this on the Account page of the Cradle admin site, and it needs to be within the locality of the number you're purchasing. 

National Numbers

We need to have your physical address on file. You can enter this on the Account page of the Cradle admin site, and it needs to be within the Republic of Ireland.   

Mobile Numbers

We need to have your physical address on file. You can enter this on the Account page of the Cradle admin site, and it needs to be within the Republic of Ireland.  In addition, we need a Business Registration Extract for your company (in whichever country you are registered).

South Africa

Local Landline Numbers

We require a copy of your Business Registration in South Africa. This is your Proof of Identity

We need a bank statement or similar, with your address, to serve as your Proof of Local Address. This is the area in which you have to choose your number. 

We need a Passport or Drivers Licence for the Authorised Representative of your company.
